  2. Also known as maternal serum screening, the double or dual marker test is done to check for or determine any chromosomal malformation in the foetus. This test is performed in the first trimester of pregnancy in women who are older than 35 years of age. The test is prescribed for women with a higher risk of developing some kinds of chromosomal abnormalities. The upcoming slides will discuss everything you need about the dual marker test.

  3. Use of Dual Marker Test This test is quite effective in predicting or determining a variety of diseases in the fetus. Primarily, a dual marker test is prescribed to determine if the unborn child has a risk of any type of neurological disorders, like Down’s syndrome, etc. It also aids in the diagnosis of Trisomy 21.T, which causes heart conditions, mental disorders, and other issues affecting vital organs in the body.

  4. When Is the Double Marker Test Prescribed? The dual marker test is often prescribed during the first trimester to prevent complications before or after delivery. This test is prescribed between the 8th and 14th weeks of pregnancy. The test is used to check two markers - Beta HCG blood test sample and pregnancy-related proteins.

  5. Test Procedure It is a simple blood test procedure that usually takes 5 to 10 minutes. The test is carried out, along with an ultrasound examination or nuchal translucency (NT) scan of the foetus. While the test report is generated within 2 days of sample collection, it is advised to consult a doctor for the correct interpretation of the result and suggestions for further examination or medication.
