What is Samskrutam and its Importance? What is Samskrutam and its Importance? Samskrutam is the original name of the Sanskrit language. Sanskrit is a classical language belonging to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European languages. Sanskrit, one of the ancient languages, is now considered as a gateway to understand sacred ancient texts, hymns, dramas, etc. This languages usage and to make modern individuals understand and gather information from ancient Shaashtras. History of Sanskrit Sanskrit is the sacred language of Hinduism, the language of classical Hindu philosophy, and of historical texts of Buddhism and Jainism. Sanskrit generally connotes several Old Indo- Aryan language varieties. The most archaic of these is the Vedic Sanskrit found in the Rigveda, a collection of 1,028 hymns composed between 1500 BCE and 1200 BCE by Indo-Aryan tribes migrating east from what are today Afghanistan across northern Pakistan and into northwestern India. Sanskrit language has been with us for over 10,000 years. It has been our spoken language for thousands of years. This tells us how important is Sanskrit to our values and how important it is for us to keep Sanskrit as one of our main-stream language. Importance of Sanskrit Sanskrit is the core of our Bhaaratiya (Indian) culture and knowledge. It has played the major role in everything we have today as our knowledge, culture, and values. All our major works like Vedas, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Shrimad Bhagvad Gita, etc., are composed and written in Sanskrit. It is doubtless and well accepted that all these teachings are unparalleled with any other teaching in the world and will remain so. Without the knowledge of Sanskrit, as a language, we will not be able to truly appreciate and understand the literature we have.
