GTS is the branch of the TFWP for highly-skilled workers in dedicated professions, giving priority to those having experience in engineering and tech-related fields. The Global Talent Stream was launched in June 2017 as a two-year pilot program. The program is collectively led by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Since being introduced, thousands of skilled foreign workers have successfully reached Canada through the GTS, with several workers supposed to arrive in the coming years. In 2019 Federal Budget, the government announced the program will become a permanent part in Canadian immigration, giving “local businesses accelerated and knowable access to top global talent.”
