ABRAHAM PARTNER, FINANCIAL SERVICES PRACTICE LEADER Charles is Mazars USA’s Financial Services Practice Leader has experience providing accounting and auditing services to domestic and foreign entities in various industries. He specializes in audits of public-interest entities and owner-managed businesses and has significant industry-specific experience providing audit services to specialty finance companies, domestic and offshore hedge funds (including registered investment companies and SBICs), and broker-dealers.  Charles is a member of Mazars USA SEC Practice Group and the Accounting and Auditing Council.   23. MARK AARON, CPA, ABV, CVA PARTNER Mark possesses more than 20 years’ experience in providing audit, accounting, and tax services to clients in the financial service and broker dealer industry. This includes the filing of the annual audited financial statements for his broker dealer clients so that they may meet their regulatory reporting requirements. In addition, Mark also has significant experience in the real estate industry, where he provides audit, accounting and tax services to owners of commercial and residential real estate. TOM BARBER, CPA PARTNER Tom Barber is a Pennsylvania based Partner with more than 29 years of experience dealing with the taxation of property and casualty, life, health, mortgage and financial guaranty, blue cross/blue shield and captive insurance companies. Tom has led numerous tax consulting service engagements for ASC 740 (formerly FAS 109, including FIN 48) for both public and non-public enterprises, and SSAP No. 101 (formerly SSAP No. 10R), federal/state income tax return preparation or reviews, IRS audit/tax controversy, co-sourcing/out-sourcing arrangements, tax basis analyses, deferred tax validations (GAAP and Statutory), accounting method changes, tax due diligence, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.   25. BRIAN CLOUSE, CPA PARTNER Brian is a Partner at Mazars USA LLP and leads our Insurance Practice. He has more than 20 years of financial, auditing, managing, and consulting experience with insurance and reinsurance companies, captives and risk retention groups. Brian provides leadership and technical skills to all aspects of complex insurance and reinsurance projects and initiatives. Brian has served a variety of insurance clients on numerous projects including financial statement audits (GAAP and statutory), financial and operational restructuring, forensic accounting investigations, modeling and forecasting, due diligence services, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. He is also a frequent lecturer on insurance and reinsurance industry trends and technical accounting updates. Prior to joining Mazars USA, Brian held finance function roles at two different insurance carriers, with responsibilities including GAAP and Statutory financial reporting, company-wide planning and budgeting, as well as strategic planning projects including legal entity restructuring, off-shore financing and alternative risk arrangements, and long-term financial and solvency projections. Brian began his career with a large international accounting firm in New York and Hamilton, Bermuda, as a financial statement assurance manager. Brian was the primary audit manager in the insurance practice in Bermuda, where he managed audits for more than 60 captive property and casualty (P&C) insurance captives and risk retention groups including specialized risks such as catastrophe reinsurance, aviation, weather derivatives, and power generation option contracts.   26. BARRY GOODMAN, CPA PARTNER Barry has more than 22 years of experience in accounting, auditing and taxation. He specializes in providing accounting solutions for broker dealers, hedge funds, private equity funds, funds of funds and closed-end mutual funds. Prior to joining Mazars USA, Barry was an Audit Partner and Practice Leader of a regional accounting firm’s Financial Services Practice. In this role, he was responsible for managing several client engagement teams and worked closely with clients providing recommendations and implementing solutions that helped structure and manage their middle and back offices. Previously, he has worked for both national and regional accounting firms in addition to being a Controller for a global alternative investments platform focusing on leveraged loan investments. Barry spearheads initiatives to educate and inform professionals in the alternative fund industry on current trends and relevant issues. ILLENE MAK, CPA, JD PARTNER Ilene has over 20 years of experience providing corporate and partnership tax services, particularly to domestic and foreign private and public entities in the financial services industry. Her expertise includes preparation and review of income tax provisions for public and private companies under the provisions of U.S. GAAP and IFRS; large tax compliance engagements (both corporate and partnership) involving federal and multistate separate companies and consolidated/combined tax returns for domestic and foreign corporations and partnerships; and representation with federal and state income tax examinations.   28. CHARLES PAGANO, CPA PARTNER Charles specializes in providing accounting, auditing, regulatory, and consulting services to a wide range of financial services clients including broker/dealers. Charles has been in public accounting for over 25 years and, prior to that, served as a senior examiner for FINRA (formerly NASD) as well as having been involved in other regulated industries including credit unions and the insurance sector.  Charles received his BA at Queens College, City University of New York. He is currently a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, SIFMA Financial Management Society and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association in their Compliance and Legal Division, as well as the Financial Management Division. Charles is a current member of the NYSSCPA Stock Brokerage Committee and has served as Chair of that group two times, most recently from 1999 to 2001.   29. JEFFREY PALMER, CPA PARTNER Jeff is a Partner with Mazars USA LLP. He has more than 25 years of audit and insurance experience and specializes in major insurance consulting and audit engagements. He is the audit partner on a broad spectrum of P&C, Life and Health insurance clients. His domestic and international experience includes various aspects of financial reporting, statutory reporting, taxes, and operational reviews. Specific consulting projects have included the review, documentation, and recommendations around the financial reporting and processing of reinsurance, including alternative risk products. He has assisted two major clients with financial statement restatement projects and recently consulted on the accounting treatment of various reinsurance agreements. Jeff has developed and instructed courses on accounting for insurance contracts under International Accounting Standards. In addition he has assisted with the compliance provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act: Section 404. Jeff received his Bachelor of Science and his BA from Bucknell University. Prior to joining Mazars USA, Peter was the leader of the New England advisory practice of CohnReznick LLP. FAYE TANNENBAUM, CPA PARTNER Faye has over 27 years of experience providing tax compliance and consulting services to some of the largest entities operating within the United States, including private equity companies, banks, broker dealers and investment management entities. Prior to joining Mazars USA, Faye served as the Northeast Regional Leader of the banking practice of a Big 4 accounting firm, as well as the leader of its national tax information reporting practice. She also served as the Northeast tax talent partner responsible for all human resource and recruiting aspects of the Northeast tax practice; the Northeast tax women’s initiative leader; and a member of the National Tax Advisory Group and the regional Tax Management Committee. Earlier, Faye worked within the international tax department of American Express Bank Ltd. BRIDGET QUINN, CPA PARTNER With over 20 years of public accounting experience, Bridget has worked extensively with clients in the financial services, insurance, and banking industries on complex accounting and reporting issues. She provides her clients with suggestions for improved financial statement and related disclosure as well as technical advice on the implementation and application of accounting rules and regulations. She has planned, managed, and supervised assurance engagements for financial institutions including large global institutions, regional and community banks, mortgage banks, asset managers, and brokerage entities. Bridget has served a number of clients across varied financial services industries meeting both attest and non-attest (i.e. consulting, regulatory compliance, internal audit outsourcing etc.) needs of her clients due to the extent of her technical experience, her experience with SEC issues, her rotation in the National office of her previous firm and her continued focus on continuing professional education and client service. Bridget has consulted the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and has instructed and participated in a number of courses in a variety of technical areas, including: fair value issues, Sarbanes Oxley Update, SEC Update, Internal Control Design and Implementation, Bank Regulation, Audit Risk Seminar, FASB Update, and SAS No. 99 and SAS No. 96 Updates. Bridget is a qualified peer reviewer for the AICPA. Bridget earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and Associates Degree in Business Administration from St. Francis College. She is a member of the American Society of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants.
