  1. Smart Bots in the Healthcare Industry Smart Bots in the Healthcare Industry Information is the key during the pandemic. It is information that alerts about the spread of the virus ensuring the well-being. At the same time, it is information that misleads too. Especially the information’s gathered through the Social Media channels. Since contact-less digital solutions are the only way during the pandemic, bots have been a quiet force behind Covid-19 control initiatives. It fills in the gaps which are not adequately met by the human workforce. Artificial Intelligence in the Healthcare Industry has played a major role during the pandemic. Bots have been the most significant Application of AI in Hospitals during the phase of the Covid-19. Bots for Covid-19 - Bots successfully gives accurate information, performs initial interactive screening, provides online consultation, and recommends recovery pathways. - They have helped to bring in behavioural changes like social distancing, and handwashing by repeating known techniques and instructions. - They are used to treat mental health issues that are arising from uncertainty, fear of isolation from family and friends, loss of routine, and loss of income. - They lend their ears and listen to the issues of the people and provide support, and give a positive response which helps to alleviate fears. - Bots are helping patients with other ailments online since the medical healthcare centres are full of COVID patients and only emergency cases are being admitted. - Clara is a chatbot on Facebook Messenger which helps patients to protect themselves from Covid-19 The ‘Smart’ Bots - There are rudimentary bots that are just pre-programmed with a set of ‘if then else’ instructions, that are not based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). - Modern-day robots are AI-driven engineered with a Machine Learning algorithm. These equip the robots with cognitive abilities like Natural Language Processing and facial recognition. - They are better and become even more accurate with time - These robots have a continuous process of unlearning and relearning 1

  2. - These robots can hold human conversations and can understand humour, sarcasm, or any other emotion. - Smart bots typically support IOS, Android and Windows platform. They are also available on Social Media channels like Facebook for better adoption. Bots in Healthcare - Medical Consultation Functions as diagnostic assistants for doctors Recommends recovery pathways by accessing the symptoms of the patients For patients, bots serve as nursing assistants It monitors vitals and sends reminders for procedures and medication Helps radiologists in x-ray’s and scans - Medical History Analytics It helps to present a unified view of the complex medical history data Helps to retrieve information from various scattered resources It presents in a palatable and user-friendly interface - Drug Recommendations Bots help doctors with valuable information about the active ingredients in the medication Helps doctors to know the list of brands who manufacture these medicines It ensures the compatibility of the drug with the other drugs being taken by the patients Can recommend alternative option if required - Patient Support It empowers patients who are terminally ill or have recovered from some serious ailments by providing them with a comprehensive diet, resources, healthy lifestyle practices, exercises, etc. Provides resources for caregivers to give them emotional and physical support It can track emotional wellness based on the conversation with patients It recommends personalized wellness therapies such as; Meditation, Yoga, and Tai Chi - Personal Health Companion It helps to automate routine processes such as; finding the right doctors, symptom checking, making appointments, providing a reminder, diet intake, tracking the exercise regime etc. Helps in proactive and predictive treatment for patients Bots with its intelligence have added immense value to the healthcare industry since these services are completely self-driven and are available anytime and anywhere to provide a consistent service. Bots are immune to monotony. Bots are responsive to healthcare enterprises and offer massive scalability. By reducing the manual labour and automating the routine tasks, it helps to cut the cost at large. Though these bots have a high level of cognition, yet, they cannot make independent judgements and hence cannot be relied upon 100%. Even though they are fantastic and super intelligent, yet, the can only supplement humans, not replace them completely. 2
