  1. What to Look for in a Trucking Company As a manufacturer or distributor, we often face problems to haul our products to the target location. In Canada, over 80% of goods are moved by truck. However, there are several factors you need to consider while finding the right trucking company, out of which the two most important are price and reliability. Find the one which can offer you the best work and routes and of course with other benefited offers. There are many trucking companies which charge a very low amount, but if your products don’t reach their destinations on time or in good condition, you may suffered a loss in business. On the other, paying too much for shipping may force you to accept lower profit margins.

  2. How old is the Company- To minimize the risk, you should look for a company that has been in business since a few years or a decade. However, there are newer trucking companies that are capable of carrying the loads in more efficient way. Make a call for feedback from their customers. Licenses and Insurance- Check whether they have all the licenses and insurance documents for the type of goods they hauled in that particular region or country. This is especially for those who are shipping hazardous materials. Or you can access records from the relevant authorities such as the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration or your state transportation department. Equipment Age/Condition- Does the company provide its truckers a required training on the well-functioning/cared for equipments? Or is the infrastructure largely old and forgotten. Does the trucks in good condition? Tracking- Does they use advanced Tracking technologies? Such as GPS and RFID which allow business owners to monitor their shipments. Ask your trucking company to explain how their monitoring technology works and how you can access the data.

  3. Ask for References- You can also ask for few references, generally from business owners in your industry. They might give you the key insights that can help you determine if a trucking company will meet your needs. A reliable company can offer you the free load boards service at reasonable rates and promises you job security.
