  1. All That You Need to Know About a 6.5 hp Engine

  2. What is the difference between a 6.5 hp engine and a 212cc one? While mini bike engines are popularly marked in cc, the hp factor is not to be ignored either. While both are used interchangeably by the owners of mini bikes, it is not the same if you think of the technology of the engine. The power of the engine in cc is a measure of the volume in cubic centimeters of the displacement of the cylinders. On the other hand, hp measures the power of the engine.

  3. The reason why both are often talked about in the same breath is that they can be linked by the theory that the larger the displacement of the cylinders, the higher will be the power generated. Hence a 6.5 hp enginecan be roughly said to be equal in power to that of a 212cc engine.

  4. Even then this is not like a straight equation between the two as a lot of factors have to be taken into account before a realistic evaluation and comparison of the two can be made. You can modify the engine and add parts to a 6.5 hp engineto dramatically increase its power. A lot depends on the compression ratio of the motor, the placement of the valves, how fast the motor runs, the fuel/carburetor injection system, and the type of fuel used. All these have to be considered before evaluating engine output. You can also increase the power manifold of a simple 6.5 hp engineby tinkering with it and adding a turbocharger/supercharger, and modifying the cooling and the timing system.

  5. However, even after these steps are taken by you to add extra zoom power to your mini bike, you have to be careful not to upset the balance of all the components of the engine. There is a limit to what degree the power can be boosted. Hence, even if you are a trained specialist who can build a mini bike with a 6.5 hp enginefrom scratch, it is always advisable to consult experts in this field.

  6. Suppose you have added a turbocharger to the engine of the mini bike. Now, as you zoom over the roads or the dirt tracks, remember that originally the mini bike was designed to absorb a specific level of speed and no more with the attendant pull and give of the mini bike as a whole. When you add power to the engine, therefore, you have to ensure that you also strengthen the frame and have the right gear ratio as otherwise, the mini bike will not be stable and you will be compromising your safety while riding it. • Naturally, you would love to increase the output of the engine but remember, you already have a powerful bike with a 6.5 hp engine. The average mini bike ranges between 49 to 100 cc.
