  1. What are the best ways to help the homeless? Social and financial inequalities are among our society’s biggest problems. It is estimated that in Canada live more than 200,000 homeless people, and many more experience poverty. The United Nations has a very broad definition of poverty which might be worth consulting, for a better understanding of the concept. As one of the top movers in Toronto, at Let’s Get Moving we always feel the need to give back to the community we live in. And asides from what Toronto residential movers can do to help, we believe everybody can bring a small input into slightly improving the lives of homeless people. And the lives of people in need, in general. Here are some of the best ways to help the homeless. We would never agree to give money to people begging on the street. The reasons are multiple and include the risk of them buying addictive substances that will just worsen their condition, instead of helping them. Another reason is that begging should be discouraged, since it is actually a business that is harming many people involved. On the other hand, we are all about helping these people and contributing to their well-being, as much as possible. Over the years, we have been looking for ways in which we, as Toronto residential movers, but also as individuals living in Toronto, can contribute to helping the homeless. We have found quite a lot of ways for doing this, and we are happy to be able to share some with you. Don’t throw away what you don’t use Let’s just say you are in the middle of the pre-relocation process, where you decide what stays and what goes away. As experienced Toronto house movers, we always encourage people to pack and move to their new homes only the items they still use or they are highly attached to. Otherwise, they just end up turning their houses into fancy warehouses. Some of the things you are not using can be put in storage. In this regard, the top movers in Toronto provide storage facilities that you can rent monthly. On the other hand, almost everyone has things they don’t use anymore and don’t feel like keeping. While the first impulse is to throw them away, we strongly advise you don’t do that. One man’s trash is always another man’s treasure, remember that. And if you think about people facing severe economic obstacles, you can bet they will be happy to receive all those clothes, blankets,

  2. dishes or other things you are not using anymore. You have two options here: either take them directly to people on the streets – which we wouldn’t necessarily recommend, as easy as it would be – or take them to an NGO that is specialized in this type of charity. Just make sure you only donate things that are not severely damaged or used. Find other people to care And associate yourself with them, for supporting different causes. If you are not sure where to start from, let us give you an idea. Let’s Get Moving does one free weekly move for North York food harvest, for the homeless and for other people in need. Although we are Toronto residential movers and not a charity organization, we always like to engage in charity activities and to help people in need, as much as possible. This is the least we can do to balance the inequalities in our community. You don’t have to partner with us or with other house movers in Toronto for helping the homeless. Just make sure you find a cause that you would like to support – there are plenty listed online – and contact its promotors for details. There are usually many ways in which you can help, including volunteering and donating. And you will feel so good afterwards!... Donate on a constant basis It is said that donating is one of the healthiest financial habits one can have. Find an organization or a local action group that takes care of homeless people and supports their activity by donating monthly. The amount is not really that important, so don’t ever think that the $50 you donated is not making a difference! If everyone would donate $50 per month for a social cause, the country would blossom and poverty would probably not be an issue anymore. But even if you know someone who has a very difficult financial situation and you want to support them, you can still do that. Make sure you ask in advance if they would accept the help, in order not to put them in an uncomfortable situation. And if you want to donate objects, you can ask Toronto residential movers to help you with transporting them. We are pretty sure that most house movers would happily help you move furniture or other goods from one place to another in Toronto. At least we know we would. :)

  3. Remember, sharing is caring, and if you were lucky enough to have more than others, it is always good to help them out whenever possible. And we don’t advise you to do so because it will help you gain points for your admission to heaven, but merely because all of us can contribute to reducing inequalities. There is so much you can do with so little, you will start wanting to help more often. In case you need residential movers in Toronto to helping you donate, contact Let’s Get Moving and let’s do some good deeds together!
