  2. DMI • Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI) headed by the Agricultural Marketing Advisor, Department of Agriculture & Co-operation (DAC). • Implements agricultural marketing policies and programs of the Government of India. • Sponsoring Agency of AGMARKNET.

  3. National Informatics CentreThe Project implementing agency • NIC offers state-of the art IT solution to the Government and Corporate Sectors - Consultancy, S/W development, Web development, Networking expertise & Training. • NICNET - computer communication network of NIC, connecting the national capital, the state capitals & all district headquarters as well as certain C.D. blocks having CICs’. • The Network uses terrestrial, wireless & satellite communication. NICNET has international gateways at Delhi, Mumbai,Bangalore, Chennai and Calcutta. • NICNET has 800+ C-200/C-250 VSATs, 32 high speed VSATs, 150 TDMA, 1060 RO-VSATs and a number of FTDMA VSATs. NICNET provides uplink at 64 kbps and downlink at 256 kbps to 3 Mbps.

Towards helping Agricultural works NIC has launched Information Network Program to strengthen Agricultural Informatics & Communication over NICNET and establishing the following close user groups (CUG): • AGMARKNET   Agricultural Marketing Information Network. • HORTNET - Horticulture Informatics Network. • DACNET - Department of Agriculture & Co-operation Network. • ECOSTATNET-  Agricultural Economics & Statistics Network • ARISNET - Agricultural Research Information System Network • ACIN -  Agricultural Credit Informatics Network • APHNET -  Animal Production & Health Informatics Network • AGRILIB -  Agricultural Library Information System • NDMNET -  Natural Disaster Management Informatics Network • CROPSNET -  Crops Informatics Network • FISHNET -  Fisheries Informatics Network • FERTNET -  Fertilizer Informatics Network • LISNET -  Land Information System Network • PPIN -  Plant Protection Informatics Network • SEEDNET -  Seed Informatics Network • VISTARNET -  Agricultural Extension Informatics Network • WEATHERWATCH -  Weather Resource System for India

Responsibilities of NIC in AGMARKNET • Installation of Hardware/ Software • Networking of AGMARKNET nodes • Training support to the officials • Development of application software to up-link data on daily prices • Providing necessary support • Designating Nodal Officers • Design and Development of Agricultural Marketing Portal for DMI (Faridabad) by Agricultural Informatics Division of NIC (New Delhi) and at State Levels by respective NIC State Units/ NITPUs • Support services (Warranty and AMC) • Restoration of Computer System

Scope covers ........ • NICNET based Agricultural Marketing Information Network (AGMARKNET) which envisages to transmit price and market arrivals of commodities in markets to State Agricultural Marketing Board / Directorate for analysis and local dissemination. • Onward transmission of the same to DMI Hqrs. • 1st Phase of AGMARKNET has connected 670 Agricultural Produce Markets and 40 State Agricultural Marketing Boards & Directorates.
