About BHASKAR RAO BOTCHA Bhaskar Rao Botcha’s experimentation with figurative and street art led him to natural landscapes, consequently developing his profound, sensory interest in trees – which were to become the core element of his works. His artworks, which feature countless trees, lush landscapes flecked with golds, pinks, blues and blacks, vast water bodies and rolling meadows, are meant, in his own words, “to reflect the memories and experiences I have collected from the places I have lived, touched, smelled, heard and walked through.” For Botcha, trees are culturally significant emblems, deeply embedded in Indian mythological narratives, as well as occupying sacred roles. Further, they assume important roles within the physical landscape, not only yielding fruits but providing shade, covering and protecting the earth’s surface. The artist, for whom trees are lifelike characters themselves, renders these trees in myriad mediums, returning each time to them with a new resplendent vision.
