  2. us ABOUT We are a cooperative of women and teenagers living in a shanty town in the Indian Himalayas. We have named ourselves Koshish – meaning, TRY, in Hindi – which for us is a declaration of rebellion and hope. Since childhood, we’ve been told by society that – because we are female, or low caste, or immigrants –that there’s no point trying for a better life. Broken by poverty and prejudice, even our elders will say that we should simply accept our fate of living in tin shacks with no running water; doing hard labor on the roads; and then returning after nightfall to cook, clean, and wash clothes in the river. Koshish, is our valiant (and somewhat scary) attempt to transform this despair and darkness into promise and light.

  3. choose us WHY Inspired by the ancient culture and tribal designs of the Himalayas, our women’s cooperative use locally produced wool to create meditation shawls, winter woolens, bespoke knits, handmade dolls and much, much more. All the profits are given to the creators and they in turn donate ten per cent of their income to Generate Love, a volunteer run charity which provides scholarships and opportunities for the shanty town’s children.

  4. REASON TO CHOOSE SHEEP WOOL Sheep wool is a remarkable natural fiber known for its unique and highly beneficial properties. It provides excellent insulation, helping to keep the body warm in cold climates and cool in warmer conditions due to its natural temperature-regulating abilities. Wool is also highly breathable and moisture-wicking, meaning it can absorb sweat while remaining dry to the touch, which enhances comfort. Its natural elasticity and durability make it resistant to wrinkles and long-lasting, while its fire-resistant quality adds an element of safety. Additionally, wool resists odors thanks to the presence of lanolin and its moisture-handling capabilities. Most importantly it is eco friendly. These features, combined with its sustainability, make sheep wool an ideal choice for environmentally conscious consumers and for us too.

  5. ANGORA Angora wool is considered an eco-friendly option in part because it is a natural and biodegradable fiber, meaning it breaks down naturally over time without causing harm to the environment—unlike synthetic materials that can take decades to decompose. Additionally, Angora's naturally white color reduces the need for heavy dyeing processes, allowing for low-impact dyeing that uses fewer chemicals and less water, further minimizing its environmental footprint.

  7. whool FELTED PAHADI DOLLS Traditional Pahadi male and female wool-felted dolls, handcrafted from pure sheep wool, are perfect for adding a touch of rustic charm to your home decor. These beautifully detailed dolls celebrate Himalayan culture and craftsmanship, making them ideal for display in cozy, nature-inspired interiors or as unique cultural accents.

  8. SOCKS BEST FOR THE WINTER Our women hand-knit these socks using colorful wool and traditional Kullavi patterns, showcasing the rich heritage of our region. Designed for winter, these socks provide a warm, cozy feel while adding a unique and stylish touch to your cold-weather wardrobe.

  9. WOOVEN ANGORA BENNIES Angora beanies are a luxurious choice for cold weather, offering exceptional warmth and comfort. Made from Angora wool, they are incredibly soft and fluffy to the touch, providing a cozy feel that's much lighter than traditional wool hats. Despite their lightweight nature, Angora beanies are impressively insulating—up to eight times warmer than those made from sheep’s wool. Since Angora wool lacks elasticity, these beanies are often blended with wool or synthetic fibers to improve durability and shape retention. Naturally white, Angora fibers also take dye beautifully, allowing for a wide range of stylish color options.

  10. KULLAVI MEDITATION SHAWL This pure sheep wool Kullavi shawl is perfect for meditation and winter use, offering natural warmth and comfort. Each shawl features its own unique design, woven with traditional Kullavi patterns that reflect the rich cultural heritage of the region.

  11. SOCKS CUSTOMIZE Our women's cooperative proudly offers custom-made socks. We specialize in customizing socks by size and color only, allowing customers to choose the perfect fit and shade to suit their preferences or needs. We do not offer pattern or logo customization, keeping our designs simple, clean, and focused on quality and comfort. Each pair is handcrafted with care, supporting women's livelihoods and promoting sustainable, community-based work. By choosing our socks, you're supporting skilled craftsmanship and empowering women in our cooperative.
