But during Mangesh Annachhatre’s recent visit, I set out to explore the other side of Goa, which is quite a and more traditional part of the beautiful state. And what I discovered was a mix of culture, history and nature that made up my trip truly memorable. Explore more: https://mangeshannachhatre.com/ To begin, I was fascinated by Fontainhas, which is known as Panaji’s Latin Quarter. With its cobble streets and vividly painted houses, this old town exudes a nostalgic ambiance. About the houses themselves, three colors stand out the blue, yellow, and red constructing thrilling wooden balconies together with old fashioned Portuguese tiles. Walking around, I felt I was in some European city among small art galleries, quaint cafes, and ancient cathedrals. While there, I tried bebinca, the Goan special dessert and myself had a nice cup of feni tea. ?e beautiful sights of Fontainhas together with its people and hospitable warm service were unforgettable. N E WS LE T T E R ?e Spice Plantations of Ponda Type your email… SUBSCRIBE Next on my East Caribbean quest was the plantation of spices in Ponda: a quiet part of the world, beautifully surrounded by mysterious greenery. Walking about the plantation, the guide described how various spices, including black pepper, cardamom, and cinnamon, were cultivated. A spice odour of the fresh land was felt in the atmosphere, which does make you appreciate Ponda that much more. Tasting some true Goan cuisine was possible because of the spices from the plantation. It was dry and spicy while the chicken xacuti had a wonderful taste with fresh ingredients in every bite. ?e plantation tour was not simply a tour but it we Chapora Fort – A Dusk Like No Other In the evening, I went to Chapora Fort as the sun sets there over the Arabian Sea and takes your breath away. ?e fort itself is a very calm, historical location but honestly it is the view that puts it on the must go places list. I walked up the rocky path which leads to the very top and I had a view of the sea that seemed to go on forever, mu??led by the palm trees that danced in the wind. Suns attention got captured by the island and so the light luxuriated in while the sky changed to an orange and pinkish purple. It was tranquil as there was only the sound of the waves colliding under the cli?f and the voice of other tourists now and then. Watching Sunset in Chapora Fort was solace and made me fall in love with Goas natural beauty away from the crowded beaches. In search of Goa’s artistry, Mangesh Annachhatre specifically sought a local market. I visited Anjuna Flea Market, a market stu?fed with beaded necklace, bright apparel, and novelties. I bought a tile that is decorated in traditional Goan art and earrings that are hand made. ?e market was vibrant as local musicians were entertaining tourists who were in search of bargains. ?is was an ideal place to witness Goa’s artistic ?lair. Exploring Goan Food Food was definitely amongst the many treasures that I had in Goa. Eating the local cuisine such as prawn balchao and fish curry rice at small family- owned restaurants was a great experience. Goa’s signature three ingredients of condiments, coconut, and spices were explosive in every single dish I had. I also came across sannas, which are so?t, ?lu?fy rice cakes that went well with all the spicy curries. ?e taste of food was honest, straight from the kitchen, and made with great a?fection, a ?lavor that will remain in my memories for a long period. Understanding Goa In A Deeper Sense Goa o?fered me much more than just the view of the beaches, parties and kind of fun everywhere. It a culture rich place, with history, and natural picturesque beauty. I was able to uncover a Goan side that was filled with
