  1. Kids Act LA Kids Act LA Child Acting and Stage Moms: Kids Act LA Pursuing a career in acting can be very demanding. But for a child, it can be even a hundred times more stressful. Add to the picture - The parent. Most children think it would be great to be on television or in the movies. However, it's the parent that usually pushes the child to become an actor. What type of parent are you? There are many types of parents involved in the entertainment industry when it comes to children. The most common term used is "Stage Mom". This term is commonly used with the mother who has a vested interest in placing her child or children into acting. This type of mom or even dad these days, will push their child to perform no matter if the child likes or dislikes the industry.

  2. If you've ever gone to an audition for a child role, you may have seen or perhaps been one of these stage moms. They are easily recognizable. They will be the parent who is yelling at the child and telling the child to do their lines. When the child is not performing according to the parents standards, the parent begins to belittle the child. Behavior such as this will only force the child to become disinterested in the role even if they had a slight desire to do it. The best approach is to help them with their lines and explain to them what the character is about. Then, let the child perform as they see fit. If the child has to look to you for approval every time, then they will do the same thing when it comes time to speak with the casting director. Being a Stage Mom can affect you child’s chances - One of the first things a casting director may ask when auditioning your child for a role will be, "Do you want to be an Actor?" If your child has to look to you for an answer, the director may take that to mean your child is auditioning because of you and does not really have a desire to be there, which to the director means that your child may not give 100% effort to this role. Don't try to live vicariously through your children - There are many parents who struggle to pay the bills or just get by. With the current economy, that's probably most of us. As a result, we try to give our children what we didn't have. Perhaps many of us wanted to be an actor or do something more meaningful or lucrative. We believe that if our children become actors, they can be more successful than ourselves. Entertaining this belief will often cause us to push our children to hard thus hurting their chances to become successful. Before you become one of the many overbearing stage moms, speak with your child and try to determine if they really want to become an actor. This field is very demanding and time - consuming. The last thing you want to do to your child is to push them into something they hate just to make you happy. This will only cause them to resent you.
