  1. High School health By: Kelis Joliet

  2. Introduction In the dynamic landscape of education, the paramount importance of prioritizing health and well-being within high schools has become increasingly evident. Adolescence serves as a pivotal phase in a young person's life, marked by rapid physical, emotional, and cognitive changes. Recognizing and nurturing the significance of health during these formative years not only sets the foundation for a lifetime of well-being but also contributes profoundly to academic success, social development, and overall life satisfaction

  3. Test and Homework Policy Homework Purpose and Scope: Homework assignments will be assigned regularly to reinforce classroom learning and encourage independent exploration of health-related topics. Homework may include reading assignments, research projects, reflective journals, and online exercises. Time Commitment: Homework assignments will be designed with a reasonable time commitment in mind, ensuring that students have sufficient time to balance their academic workload with other commitments. Submission and Deadlines: Homework should be submitted on the specified due date. Late submissions may be accepted with a penalty, unless an extension is granted for extenuating circumstances. Timely completion of assignments is essential to maximize learning outcomes. Quality and Originality: Homework should reflect the student's own effort and understanding. Plagiarism or copying from external sources will result in a reduced grade and educational consequences. Tests Frequency and Format: Tests will be administered at the end of each major unit, assessing students' understanding of the material covered. These tests may include a mix of multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, and essay questions. Preparation: To ensure adequate preparation, students will be provided with a detailed study guide and ample time for review. This will empower students to consolidate their knowledge and seek clarifications on any uncertainties prior to the test. Assessment Weight: Tests will contribute to a significant portion of the overall grade, reflecting the importance of demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. Make-up Tests: Make-up tests will only be allowed for valid reasons such as documented medical emergencies or pre-approved school activities. Students must notify the teacher and arrange for a make-up within a reasonable timeframe.

  4. Attendence Regular attendance is a critical component of academic success and the overall learning experience. In the high school health class, we recognize the significance of actively participating in discussions, activities, and lessons to fully engage with the subject matter and develop a comprehensive understanding of health-related topics. Therefore, the following attendance policy has been established: Attendance Expectation: Students are expected to attend all scheduled health class sessions, including lectures, discussions, group activities, and any additional hands-on learning experiences. Attendance is not only vital for personal academic growth but also contributes to a respectful and collaborative classroom environment. Punctuality: Students are expected to arrive on time for each class to minimize disruptions and ensure a smooth start to the learning experience. Tardiness not only impacts the student's ability to engage with the content but also disrupts the learning process for fellow classmates. Absences: In case of unavoidable absences due to illness, medical appointments, or other legitimate reasons, students or their parents/guardians should notify the school as per the school's absence notification procedure. Missed class content, assignments, and announcements are the responsibility of the absent student, who is expected to catch up promptly. Excessive absences can impact a student's ability to grasp the full scope of the course and meet the learning objectives. If a student accumulates a significant number of absences, the school administration, teacher, and parents/guardians may collaborate to address the situation and devise a plan for successful attendance and academic progress. Participation and Engagement: Attendance is not solely about physical presence but active engagement. Students are expected to participate in class discussions, group activities, and hands-on learning experiences. Engagement enhances the learning process and enriches classroom discussions. Accountability: Students are accountable for their attendance and punctuality, demonstrating responsibility for their education and learning journey. Communication: If a student anticipates or experiences challenges attending class, they are encouraged to communicate with the teacher promptly. Teachers are available to provide guidance and support. Impact on Grading: Consistent attendance and active participation may be considered when assessing the overall participation and engagement component of a student's grade. By adhering to this attendance policy, students can fully embrace the learning opportunities presented in the high school health class, contribute to a vibrant classroom environment, and equip themselves with the knowledge and skills necessary for a holistic understanding of health and well-being.
