BioInformatics Institute Opening New Frontiers in Biology • National Tissue Repository : • reliable databases and strong data confidentiality. • National Disease Registary : • Set up by MOH in collaboration with healthcare institutions and research institutes in Singapore. • Database on cardiac, diabetes, myopia, cancer, renal etc. disease for healthcare planningand a platform for epidemiological studies of prevalent diseases in this region, • When fully operational, will integrate all registries creating new opportunities for scientific and clinical R&D.

BioInformatics Institute Opening New Frontiers in Biology • BioMed Grid Test Beds: • Goal :To gain expertise and train manpower to meet future needs for biomedical R&D. • Linux Clusters in BII, NUS • Part of the new Consortium Called Gelato to push open source development on Linux clusters on the Grid environment. • (Gelato involves UIUC, Waterloo, BII, HP Labs, Tsing Hua, NSW…) • • These nodes will serve as initial test beds for the BioMed Grid Project
