Cold and awesome. This is how sword enthusiasts describe the Nodachi sword. It is more than the average sword size. In fact it is very large and will require two hands to use. Nodachi swords has the same general appearance as that of a tachi. They also have the same design except in this case the Nodachi is significantly longer. Foot soldiers carry this sword during open field engagements. This weapon is not conducive to use indoors or at close quarters. Although this was a powerful weapon it has its limitations because it is more than a normal size sword.<br>

In fact it is very large and will require two hands to use. Nodachi swords as can be seen on this site, has the same general appearance as that of a tachi. They also have the same design except in this case the Nodachi is significantly longer. Foot soldiers carry this sword during open field engagements. This weapon is not conducive to use indoors or at close quarters. Although this was a powerful weapon it has its limitations because it is more than a normal size sword. It will require a great amount of strength from an extra ordinary soldier to be able to wield this sword properly. This is why some weapons like the Naginata and Nagamaki are thought to be more effective when use in the battlefield. However, it is not a weapon to toy with since legend states that it can cleave a warrior and his horse in half by just a single blow. Nodachi is used to train martial artists to handle an oversize weapon so that it would be easy for them to handle a normal size one. The Nodachi replaces the heavy wooden sword use by students of martial arts if they are serious about their training. Classification Classification Generally speaking, a sword that its blade is longer than 90 cm is usually classified as Nodachi. Each sword has its purpose and Nodachi serves several ones like the following: Nodachi swords are offered to gods. For warriors who are about to go to war, they go to a shrine and offer this sword to gain victory in battle Use as a weapon. Soldiers use this sword for battle. There are Nodachi offered to gods and there are those that are taken into battle Use as symbol for battle. If in case there are no soldiers who can handle this mighty sword, Nodachi is still carried in battle as a symbol for an army instead of using flags and spears. A highly skilled craftsman can hammer the steel quickly. It takes several people to create a sword like this. It also requires a lot of skill in quenching and tempering the sword. Special kinds of facilities are also required in producing a sword like this. However, difficult the process might be but, for those who believe in what this sword can do they will be patient to see the end result.
