Which Types of Cancers Can Be Treated Through Immunotherapy?

According to Dr. Kanury Rao, immunotherapy or immune checkpoint inhibition is among the most promising forms that can utilize antibodies so that proteins such as PD1, PDL1, LAG3, and CTLA4 can be blocked on cancer cells. Since these proteins impede the immune system from attacking those cancer cells, it is necessary to block them.

  1. Which Types of Cancers Can Be Treated Through Immunotherapy?

  2. In the present time, immunotherapy has gained massive popularity for several health conditions and diseases. One such issue is cancer. In many countries, immunotherapy is being used as a main line of treatment for different cancers. However, some high-end clinical trials are still going on to improve and expand the effectiveness and benefits.

  4. Bladder cancer: Patients with moderate-to-high and early-stage tumors can go for immunotherapy. Through this treatment for bladder cancer, certain steps i.e. allergy shots and vaccine are given to weaken the Bacillus Calmette Guerin or BCG. This is done to reduce the recurrence risk of the cancer. The entire process helps the immune system so that it can fight the cancer cells and bacteria affecting the body.

  5. Breast cancer: According to Kanury Rao, immunotherapy is a good option for those having metastatic triple-negative breast cancer. When a patient opts for this holistic approach, they may get a combination of pembrolizumab or atezolizumab and chemotherapy drugs. However, some clinical trials are still going on to locate the benefits of immunotherapy for breast cancer and its subtypes.
