Finding My Way Through Logistics in India as a Small Business Owner When I first started my handmade decor business in Pune, I believed the hardest part would be creating products people loved. But I quickly realized that wasn’t true. Making the product was one thing; getting it safely and on time into the customer’s hands was a completely different challenge. In the beginning, I went with the cheapest delivery options available. I thought I was being smart, saving money wherever I could. But that decision caused more headaches than I expected. Parcels went missing, some arrived late, and a few were damaged. One of my lowest points was when a big wedding order for Jaipur reached two days after the event. Not only did I lose that client, but I also felt like I had let my work and my brand down. It was at that moment I realized logistics isn’t just about shipping. It’s about reliability and trust. Customers don’t care how beautiful my product is if it doesn’t reach them when they need it. That’s when I began digging deeper,
talking to other small business owners, and slowly understanding what good logistics actually means. Eventually, I came across services that gave me confidence in managing logistics in India. A few lessons stood out for me. First, tracking tools are a lifesaver. Once I started using them, I could give customers real-time updates instead of awkwardly saying “I’ll check and get back to you.” Second, reliability is worth every extra rupee. I used to stress over saving 20 or 30 rupees per shipment, but one failed order cost me so much more in refunds and reputation. Finally, customer support really matters. Having someone pick up the phone, listen, and actually help when something went wrong changed how I looked at logistics. Over time, these changes reduced so much of my stress. I no longer feel like I’m fighting fires every day. Sure, issues still pop up once in a while, but now I feel prepared to handle them. Most importantly, I can focus on growing my business instead of worrying about whether every parcel will reach on time. If I were to give advice to someone just starting out, it would be simple: ● Don’t always chase the cheapest courier, think long-term. ● Use tracking, and share updates with your customers. ● Build a relationship with your logistics partner instead of treating them like just another vendor. Logistics may not be the most exciting part of business, but it’s definitely one of the most important. Getting it right made a world of difference for me. This helped me, maybe it will help you too.
