  1. The Physical Therapist's Role in Promoting Mental Wellness

  2. We all know that mental health is just as important as physical health. Now, you don't have to compromise regarding mental health care. Physical, behavioural and mental health go hand in hand. As such, physical therapists can play an active role in preventing, managing, and promoting mental health. It includes a range of measures that increase the chances of more people experiencing better mental health. Implemented in clinics, schools, workplaces and communities, such programs typically target stress that, if left untreated, can lead to mental and physical disability.

  3. To prevent mental illness and promote good mental health, we need to create services that support mental health and enable people to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Physiotherapists perform many interventions that support mental health and well-being. From exercise, physical activity and nutrition to stress management and mental health care, we can improve mood and enhance a patient's ability to manage depression and anxiety.

  4. The Interconnectedness of Physical, Mental Health And Well- Being

  5. As licensed healthcare professionals, physical therapists recognize the two-way mental and physical health relationship. We can easily see this association and its impact on biological, psychological and social outcomes.

  6. Additionally, a constant stream of evidence- based literature and media coverage points to lifestyle factors, the environment, social determinants of health, and health equity.

  7. Considering all these factors and creating a workable and achievable treatment plan can seem daunting. There needs to be more time to educate and treat patients effectively. New microlearning interventions are being applied to treat people with complex health conditions.

  8. Microlearning is the acquisition of knowledge or skills in small increments. The advantage of these quick-build interventions is that they require little time from the provider and the patient and provide focused snippets of actionable information.

  9. How Physical Therapy Improves Your Mental Health?

  10. Make You Feel Better

  11. Many people seek physical therapy after an injury or to improve mobility due to chronic pain. Physical therapy increases functional mobility and helps people return to their favourite and meaningful activities, but it also has beneficial effects on the biochemistry of the body as a whole.

  12. Exercise increases serotonin and brain-derived neurotrophic factors in the brain, boosts endorphin levels in the body and improves sleep patterns. All of these can go a long way in regulating mood and preventing the risk of brain damage. Physical activity also promotes a sense of accomplishment. It ultimately increases motivation and reduces feelings of hopelessness, defeat, or other negative self- perceptions.

  13. Engage Your Mental & Physical Health For Better Synchronization

  14. As many physical therapy patients have had to face the added challenge of limited treatments due to the Covid-19 pandemic, mental health continues to cause significant concern for those who are already physically restricted but now suffer the consequences of extended social isolation. In fact, this study on the psychological impact of quarantining reports symptoms of anxiety, irritability, insomnia and post-traumatic stress disorder, all of which can be combated through regular exercise routines.

  15. With that in mind, engagement has a critical influence on how patients form relationships, complete plans of care and inherently treat others as well. Most importantly, physical therapy provides patients with a 1:1 interaction (whether virtual or in-person) with their therapist, who can act as both a mentor and external support. Through improving their quality of daily life, providing them with social opportunities in their community and facilitating total body wellness recovery, physical therapy has even been shown to have similar effects to antidepressants for those diagnosed with clinical depression.

  16. Save You From Multiple conditions

  17. Many patients suffering from chronic pain experience depression when they are unable to perform their daily tasks or are restricted from certain activities. When the illness becomes chronic, these feelings can last longer, so relieving pain and restoring function is essential in promoting mental health. Even provides routine tactics to avoid pain and further injury. A regularly planned exercise routine helps your brain learn your body's limits, helps retrain your muscles, and helps you exercise better. Strengthens patterns so you can be more active with less pain.

  18. As you get stronger, your nervous system learns which movements are safe and which actions can be harmful.

  19. Eventually,

  20. Physical therapy has some health benefits that are not seen when taking medication. The risk of adverse side effects from participating in a physical therapy program is significantly lower than that of drug therapy or surgery. A physical therapist and her PTA empower people to take an active role in their care. They work with each other and with other healthcare providers to ensure patients receive the best possible care. You do not need a referral from your doctor to see a physical therapist. Physiotherapists are exercise specialists who improve quality of life through hands- on care, patient education, and prescribed exercise.

  21. Reasons Why Physical Therapists Are The Best: Reduce or eliminate pain Avoid surgery Improve your mobility Recover from stroke Recovery or prevention of sports injuries Improves balance and prevents falls Manage diabetes and vascular disease Respond to problems caused by aging
