PM Modi announces the commencement of the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the second phase of the <a href="urlhttps://www.swachhbharat.co.in/">Swachh Bharat Mission</a>-Urban and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) on Friday, describing it as a "essential step towards realising BR Ambedkar's dreams."<br><br>PM Narendra Modi launched the flagship missions at an event at the Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.<br><br>The fundamental goal of Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, according to PM Modi, is to create "cities garbage-free." As part of the Swachh Bharat campaign, he stated that "trash mountains in cities" will be processed and removed.<br><br>"As part of Swachta's second phase, rubbish mountains in cities will be processed and eliminated totally. One such waste mountain has been in Delhi for a long time and is currently awaiting removal "Prime Minister Modi stated.<br><br>According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, these missions are a step ahead in efficiently tackling the difficulties of rapidly urbanising India, as well as contributing to the accomplishment of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. (PMO).<br><br>SBM-U 2.0 aims to make all cities 'trash free,' ensure grey and black water management in all cities other than those covered by AMRUT, and make all urban local bodies open defecation free and open defecation free, attaining the objective of safe sanitation in urban areas.<br><br>The mission will focus on solid waste source segregation, using the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) principles, scientific processing of all sorts of municipal solid waste, and remediation of legacy dumpsites for effective solid waste management, according to the PMO.<br><br>According to the PMO, Amrut 2.0 aims to provide 100% coverage of water supply to all households in around 4,700 urban local bodies by providing around 2.68 crore tap connections, as well as 100% coverage of sewerage and septage in 500 AMRUT cities by providing around 2.64 crore sewer or septage connections, benefiting more than 10.5 crore people in urban areas.<br><br>Phase 2 of the Swachh Bharat Mission has received Cabinet approval<br><br>Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0 and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 received approval from the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.<br><br>The two programmes were launched by the Prime Minister at a ceremony in New Delhi earlier this month.<br><br>The Cabinet authorised the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) for the period 2025-2026, with a focus on achieving Open Defecation Free results, scientific solid waste processing in all cities, and waste water management in cities with less than 1 lakh people according to Census 2011.<br><br>The Cabinet recognises that supplying urban families with dependable and affordable water and sanitation services is a national priority.
