Rafidi did his Juries Doctorate from the popular Thomas M Cooley Law College. This college was established by a group of lawyers and judges in 1972. It is accredited with American Bar Association.
Joseph Rafidi has contributed and made efforts for many community organizations such as the South County Democratic Club, The Penquin Club, and the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber of Commerce. In 1975, he was the youngest elected member to the Youngstown School Board. In the subsequent year, he was elected a delegate to the National Democratic Convention. This convention is a series of Presidential Nominating Conventions that started in 1832 and since then this convention is held after every four years and nominates and confirms the right candidates for the President and Vice President. He made many efforts to unify the party.
