  2. A number of questions cross a pet owners mind when they decide to travel with their pet in an airline. Some of these include, will they allow the pet to travel with me in the cabin? What are the restrictions? Will my pet be safe if it travels in the cargo hold?

  3. Type of pets allowed • Most airlines in the USA do not accept pets in the cargo and need to be carried in a pet carrier in the cabin. • You can keep your pet under the seat in front of you. Domestic dogs and cats except for a few breeds are allowed to travel with you. • Only a single carrier is allowed with a maximum of up to 2 pets of similar type/weight/size as long as the pets can comfortably lie and turn around in it. You pet needs to be at least eight weeks old in order to travel in an airline.

It should be leak and escape proof as well as have proper ventilation facility on at least two sides. • Size dimensions of these carriers vary from airline to airline, be sure to check the same in advance.

  5. Destinations • With the correct documents carry-on pets are allowed by most airlines within the U.S. except Hawaii. Flights that require more than 12 hours to reach generally don’t allow to carry pets. • Some of these destinations include Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Jamaica, The Middle East and Europe among others. • Contact your airlines as soon as your travel plans are confirmed as there is a limit on the number of pets that can be carried in each cabin.

  6. Apart from these guidelines make sure you reach the airport before time as the check-in process might take a little longer.
