Exercise regularly for at least an hour a day. You don't need to destroy yourself by driving, jogging, etc.; but your daily lives should be moderately physical.
Do higher intensity workouts if you want to quickly lose a few pounds. For instance, walk one hour at a fast pace. Or, during that hour, you can jog and set some sprint intervals. Make sure that your workout isn't in serious pain.
Just a tip, after a highly intensive workout the muscles will ache. It may be annoying, but that means that your body is improving.
Make sure the foods containing a good amount of protein are hydrated, spread, and eaten after every exercise. The protein helps to retain your muscles rather than fat.
