Browse the book collection by subject area? The C-N Library uses the Dewey Decimal Classification System to organize library materials. This system groups or classifies like subjects together in ten broad categories. These ten categories are further broken down into sub-categories which are then further broken down, using decimals. As the number is broken down, it becomes more specific.
How do you get call numbers from the Dewey classification categories? • These numbers become the call number which is assigned to a book and used to locate a book on the shelf in the library collection. • For example: If you were interested in History which is in the 900’s and specifically ancient Greek history, you could look in 900’s detailed breakdown to get the area to browse in the stacks.
