  2. About Jeffery Renard Allen American poet, essayist, and short story writer Jeffery Renard Allen were born in Chicago in 1962. Two collections of poetry, Harbors, and Spirits (1999) and Stellar Places (7(2007)), are his works. Three fiction pieces, Rails Under My Back (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2000), a storybook Holding Pattern (Graywolf Press, 2008), and Song of the Shank (Graywolf Press, 2014.), are also his. Reviewers frequently note his poetic language and playful use of form when writing about his fiction. His poetry is more about music, mythology, and history than narrative or personal experiences.
