  3. Characteristics of these immigrants • Not adjusted to industrial labor • - lack of dicipline • -unskilled • -high turn over rates • Poor living and working conditions • - lived in cheap board houses • - underpaid and exploited by their employers

  4. Reformation of the industries and their effects • Introduction of new machines and efficient manage systems in the factories • Frederick Taylor was the leading symbol of this process. He devised the manage system that allowed merchants to have tighter control over their factories • Workers suffered and resented this drive for efficiency and control
