The aim of screening test is:- • To eliminate the obvious Inadequate candidates. • To devote more time and effort on the potential candidates in Stage II. • To process a greater number of candidates to select the desired numbers. OIR Test (Officer Intelligence Rating) This comprises of two tests involving Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning tests respectively to test IQ of candidates. This test forms equitable part in overall scoring of marks in stage 1 along with PPDT. Based on score obtained by the candidate, he/she is rated as OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating) 1,2,3,4 and 5. That is 100% is OIR 1 and 10% is OIR 5. For this part of the testing students are provided with handouts of sample questions to practice and analyse how the process works. Part 2- About 12 to 16 candidates are seated in a semi-circle and given some time to read their story sheet again. Each candidate is asked to narrate the story in turn. The group then is asked to discuss and arrive at a common consensus with a story of the group. For this part we adequately give practice to the candidate to understand how to read a picture and write a story applying his perception correctly. This is followed by real time discussion practice and basic mechanics of conduct in group during discussion. STAGE II- PSYCHOLOGY TEST Psychology Test Candidates who clear Stage 1 are then made to appear for Stage II test. The first day of Stage II starts with Psychology Test. The Psychological tests at SSB are Projective Tests designed to let a person respond to the stimulus given to candidates in a form of picture, word or a situation. Aim of Psychological test is to assess the sub-conscious and unconscious brain of the candidate to assess his/her overall officers like qualities (OLQs). This is to note here that Coached responses in Psychological testing is the biggest taboo for candidates due to which most candidates are unable to get through in SSBs. The candidates are required to write a story on each picture. In each story the candidates are required to write as what led to the situation, what is going on in the situation and what the outcome would be. Each picture is shown for 30 seconds and four minutes are given to write story on each picture. A total 12 pictures are shown out of which the 12th picture is a blank slide, on which the candidate is required to imagine a picture of his own choice and write a story on imagined picture. Quick imagination to write a story in a given time frame is desired from a candidate. Candidates here primarily face two issue i.e. lack of imagination and speed of imagination. Our assessors have specially devised few psychotherapeutic exercises and imagination enhancement tools to naturally tune up the candidates for content rich speedy imagination. The candidate is also made to undergo real time psychological test to get similar exposure of testing as one gets at SSB. WAT - Word Association Test In this test, the candidates are shown a total of 60 words on screen. Each word is flashed for 15 seconds in which the candidate is required see the word and write whatever first thought or idea comes to his mind in a form of a sentence. This test again is a test of imagination and needs speedy response from a candidate. In this test the biggest challenge in front of a candidate is fast imagination to form a sentence. This aspect of the test requires sustained practice to exercise brain with imagination in quick structuring of sentences. The candidate is required to give his reaction to these situations. Content of situations are specially designed to assess OLQs (Officer Like Qualities) of the candidates. These situations relate from day to day life and are modifies with reference to the third person and ends with ‘he’. There are No RIGHT or WRONG answers to these situations. The aim of test is to see if the candidate is able to practically view the situation and how he gets involved in it to handle the issue. At Invicta, we train the mental faculties of the candidate, through our vast course material provided which has innumerable situations, so that the basic approach to understand the strategy develops while writing their reaction. SD - Self Description Test Self-Description Test is a test in which the assessor wants to know as how much candidate knows about himself. Generally, we come to know about ourselves from the opinion of our surroundings. Thus, in this, the candidates are required to write their Parents, teachers, and friends’ opinion about themselves; followed by as what kind of person they themselves are and what kind of person they would like to become. Time allotted for this test is 15 minutes. Since this test is all about Self- Image and Self Concept of the candidate; at Invicta, we focus on improving the self-image of the candidate by special tools of psychological testing and rationalise the mind of the candidate to have a ‘feel good’ image naturally then to be tutored as what is to be written. The candidates perform these tasks in groups. The basic intent being to judge the candidate’s performance as a team player and as an individual. Group Testing Officer (GTO) conducts this stage of selection process. There are a total of nine tasks. GD - Group Discussion The group is provided with Group Discussion topics and the candidates have to first select and then discuss the topic. The group members are required to hold a discussion on the problem and come up with a common plan having common consensus. Nominated group member from each team has to explain the common plan of action. To overcome the problems in such tasks, proper briefing with regards to detailed and precise study of the map correlating to the problem is imparted to the candidates. PGT - Progressive Group Task The group members are made to compete with each other in form of groups in this task. During this task, team members have to cross each obstacle defined by set of rules. To cross those obstacles, some helping materials are given by the G.T.O. The task has been named Progressive group task as the difficulty of the task increases from one obstacle to another in a progressive manner. Regular guidance on ingenuity and decision making with on-field tips are given to candidates on numerous examples of such type of tasks in order to prepare them adequately. Individual Lecturette In this task, the GTO provides four topics to the candidate out of which the candidate is to select one topic and give a 3 minute lecture on it. The only difference is that the no. of group members is half the number of group members in PGT. Individual Obstacles In all there are 10 obstacles which a candidate is required to attempt individually outdoors at a specified place. He/she is required to cross some obstacles, designed on field, with the help of 2-3 subordinates which are to be selected from the candidate’s very own group. FGT - Final Group Task Last of the series, basically to put the whole group together, the task given is similar to PGT and the group is asked to attempt it against a severe restriction of time. The primary purpose is to check for Officer like Qualities (OLQs) in the candidate appearing for the SSB.
