  1. Importance of Employee Background Verification Process No firm can afford incompetent and dishonest personnel. But how does an employer know that the individual sitting across from him or her in the interview process is really who he or she says he or she is? This inquiry brings up the topic of background checks on new personnel. In fact, today practically every firm, regardless of size and status, runs background checks on their prospective employees. This is because a lousy hire can cost a firm thousands of dollars in lost and negative repercussions, boost low staff morale and even legal ramifications. The notion of employee background check will be thrown more light on in this post. It contains aspects that HR professionals must examine. What is background verification for employees?

  2. Employee background verification is the procedure through which the employer verifies the information provided by the employee before he/she is given employment. This information includes identifying an individual to educational qualifications and past employment, etc. Background checks are part of the pre-employment hiring process. The employer uses them to obtain real information so they can make the appropriate hiring decision versus making an assumption. Due diligence is the act of showing a firm is prudent and will take the same precautions it would if it had entered into a contract or financial transaction including protecting its biggest asset: its people. What are pre-employment background screening benefits? 1. Safety and Security of Employee and Work Environment The most typical reason for a company to have a pre-employment verification process is to ensure a safe and secure working environment. Conducting background checks on prospective employees for any criminal past and/or misconduct can help employers limit the possibility for workplace violence, theft, harassment and fraud. This is particularly relevant in sectors involving staff who work with vulnerable people (such as healthcare, education and childcare), and in any function where the employee has access to sensitive data, financial or physical assets, making robust employment background verification services essential. 2. Reduces the Possibility of Resume Fraud Studies have shown that a high percentage of job applicants pad their resumes or make them up altogether. Some types of resume fraud include: overstating job title, fabricating a fictional college or university degree, and listing false employers. The pre-screening process will make sure such contradictions are cleared out right from the outset to save the employer’s time in training candidates that do not actually have the needed experience. 3. Compliance with applicable regulations Some industries have very tight rules that force businesses to undertake background checks for new employees. Firms such as banks, financial services, the pharmaceutical industry, government contractors and many more operate under rules that require background verifications of their future staff.

  3. Improper checks on staff may lead the firm into major difficulty in the shape of penalties, litigation or losing licenses. 4. Helps Minimize Turnover Finding the ideal individual for the job is time consuming, effortful and costly process. If a hired person is a fraud or a liar, he or she will leave the position before the organization spends money on recruitment all over again. Background verification helps to guarantee that the candidates are what they claim to be and so reduces the risks of hiring an unsuitable person. 5. It Protects Your Company’s Reputation Company reputation might be seen as its biggest asset. It takes years of hard effort and dedication to get your name out there. Your brand reputation is safeguarded from any damage through employee background checks, and therefore it is a technique of securing your organization.
