Introduction: • Memory is the most essential part of a computer. • Without memory there would be no computer , as we know it today. • It is used for storing both instruction and data. • The CPU accesses each location in memory by using a unique number , called memory address.
Types of Memory:- (1) PRIMARY MEMORY OR MAIN MEMORY:- • Random Access Memory (RAM). • Read Only Memory (ROM). (2). SECONDARY MEMORY:- • Optical Media Devices. • Magnetic Media Devices. (3). Cache Memory:- • Level 1 (L1) cache • Level 2 (L2) cache
Primary Memory Or Main Memory:- • Primary memory is computer memory that is accessed directly by the CPU. • This includes several types of memory, such as the processor cache and system ROM. However, in most cases, primary memory refers to the system RAM.
Secondary Memory:- • Secondary memory refers to storage devices, such as hard drives and solid state drives. • It may also refer to removable storage media, such as USB flash drives, CDs, and DVDs. • Like primary memory, secondary memory is not accessed directly by the CPU.
