  1. What You Need To Know About Getting Acupuncture

  2. There are many alternative treatments today which you probably don't know much about. For example, acupuncture. Thankfully, you have decided to educate yourself on the topic by reading this article and learning all you can. This should lead to great relief down the road, but only if you continue reading. Do not expect overnight miracles. Although you may feel the effects after the first treatment, you will not begin to see real results until you have had quite a few sessions. Don't let it concern you if there is limited results from session one. Improvement will come with the passage of time. Have patience and let the treatment do its work. Never visit an acupuncturist who uses the same needles over and over again! Ensure the needles being used are new by asking to see the pack they came out of. The use of dirty needles can spread diseases and is illegal in most, if not all, states. Do not eat huge meals before you get acupuncture. Eat a light meal instead so that you don't get sick during your session. The reason for this is because a lot of people have trouble lying down if they're full. You should find out if your acupuncturist is NCCAOM certified before you set an appointment. This national board certifies practitioners that have completed a national exam and full program. It doesn't say anything about whether their sessions are painful or not, but it does mention their educational level describing how many hours were spent in school and if they did any supervised internships at their school's clinic. Acupuncture involves needles, there is no way to avoid this and it is a fear that you will need to overcome. The treatments are comfortable and administered by professionals. The needles aren't there to inject medications or inflict pain. It may be a scary idea at first, but after your first visit, you'll be ready for seconds. Although you may feel that your acupuncturist has done an excellent job, you shouldn't feel obliged to tip him or her. You wouldn't tip your doctor or the nurse in a hospital, so don't tip your acupuncturist. This is a health care profession. It would be similar to tipping your doctor. When determining which acupuncturist to use, make sure you find out whether the person is NCCAOM certified. This certification indicates that the doctor took an exam and finished a comprehensive program. While it is not a guarantee that the acupuncturist will be the right fit for you, it is a good start. When trying to find a good acupuncturist, it is always a good idea to ask around. Acupuncture uses small needles that go painlessly into your skin. For this reason, it is important that you visit a place that is clean. Visiting a dirty acupuncture office could result in you contracting an infection or disease. There are few negative aspects to acupuncture as an alternative therapy, but one important one is that there are no guarantees the treatment will be effective. While it is rare, but soreness and bruising may occur, and it is also possible to get an infection if sterile procedures are not carefully followed.

A good rule of thumb is to consume at least six glasses of water following a session. Acupuncture can cause you to release toxins from the body, and you need to drink water to flush those toxins from your system. Avoid alcohol before an acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture helps clear the mind and brings us increased clarity into our beings. Alcohol has an opposite effect on your mind and should be avoided. If you drank too much the night prior and you are still feeling it, you should reschedule your treatment when you can get the full benefits.

  4. Always ask to see credentials for your acupuncture practitioner before a session. In some areas, there are specific regulations for practicing this alternative therapy, and in others, no regulations exist. Make sure that you only visit with someone reputable in order to keep yourself safe and comfortable during your treatment process. Do not bring along your electronic devices when you go to your acupuncture treatments because you want to avoid distractions. Electronic devices could upset your acupuncture session. In addition, a phone call or message alert will cause you to tense up and can even ruin the whole session. Make sure you keep such electronics away from sight and far from your mind. Some acupuncture professionals will use scraping tools, wood to bring warmth to an area or special magnifying glasses to enhance a session. While these are all normal tools of the trade, they are not ones that we are familiar with in Western medicine. If you are not comfortable with them, declining their use is perfectly fine. Some patients get small bruises from acupuncture treatments. Bruises can occur if you have a very sensitive skin. You should not worry about your bruises and let your acupuncturist know about this problem. He or she will then try different sizes or brands of needles to get rid of this issue. Acupuncture is not only used to treat and heal variety of pain, illnesses and medical conditions. It can also be very effective in preventing illness from occurring in the first place. The treatments can promote a felling of well-being, increase overall immune system functions and make patients less susceptible to disease. Before your procedure, the acupuncturist may recommend herbal treatments. This herb therapy may help you; however, you must find out about side- effects or possible negative interactions with drugs or other herbs. Talk to your primary care physician before taking any herbal substances to avoid any problems you could encounter. With all of this great acupuncture knowledge in your mind, you can now take advantage of it for your own health benefit. Share this knowledge with those you love so they can find relief for their conditions as well. They will be so glad you helped them, and you will feel amazing, too.
