Digging Their Way to Property Destruction

one small creature one big problem

Nuisance wildlife such as moles can wreak havoc on your yard. Mole holes look awful in your lawn and they can damage your garden by disrupting their root systems.

What's worse though, is that they stay under your lawn year round, creating an ongoing problem for many homeowners.

Other rodents can use their tunnels to access your property, leading to even bigger problems for you.

One Small Creature - One Big Problem
moles 101

There are three major species of moles. Most are five to eight inches in length. They can vary in color from gray to silver to brown.

All species, however, have an elongated snout as well as large feet with claws and a hairless tail. Moles are insectivores that live almost exclusively off of grubs & worms they find below the surface.

Moles are not rodents though so you won't see the gnawing type damage that you typically see with rodent infestation.

mole tunnels

Moles create two different kinds of tunnels in the yard.

One is just under the surface. These are often known as "feeding tunnels" & look like a raised ridge on the lawn.

The second is much deeper & it helps to create a network within the feeding tunnels.

The soil that is taken from these deep tunnels is what tips most homeowners off that they have a problem.

do i have moles

If you do have moles, one of the first things you are likely to notice is the volcano like mounds of dirt on your lawn.

People sometimes confuse moles with other nuisance wildlife gophers and voles, but the other two create much smaller, more visible tunnel areas.

Do I Have Moles?
prevention techniques

One good way to keep moles out of your lawn is to have a lawn care service deal with grub control every season. Grubs are a primary source of food for molesso by controlling grubs in your yard, you can help prevent moles from invading. It is important to note though, that even the best lawn care programs can't completely eliminate the possibility of moles returning to your yard at some point in the future.

Prevention Techniques
is this legal

In most states, moles are considered nongame mammals, and that means if they threaten your property in any way, it's perfectly legal to exterminate them by any means necessary. Your pest control professional can better help you understand the laws in your area.
