  1. Many seniors may feel lower back pain due to many factors. Exercise, excessive standing, or health conditions may cause pain in a senior's back. Seniors who want to take care of their back should sleep in a proper way. Some sleeping positions may take time for your loved one's body to get used to. But, changing sleep positioning may provide many benefits in the long run. If your loved one has back pain, then he or she should make changes to ensure good sleep. Here are the 4 ways seniors can use to reduce their back pain. These 4 Ways can Help seniors to Reduce Their Back Pain 1. Make the Bed Comfortable to Sleep in 2. Learn the Best Poses for Sleeping 3. Avoid Large Meals, Alcohol, and Caffeine before bedtime 4. Try Pain Relief Strategies

  2. 1. Make the Bed Comfortable to Sleep in If your loved one has a mattress for over eight years then it might be the time to buy a new one. Mattresses over time may become less supportive to the back and body. Test out a few mattresses before buying it for your loved one. Some seniors may prefer firm mattresses, while others may prefer softer ones. Buy your loved one a pillow which may suits best to the way he or she sleeps. Your loved one may like a body pillow to place between his or her legs if he or she is a side-sleeper. Make your loved one's bed more supportive by using plywood slats. Place plywood slats between the box spring and mattress.

  3. Seniors should learn to get in and out of bed in a proper way. Seniors may hurt their lower back by moving or lying in the wrong way. Your loved one may use the "log roll" whenever he or she wants to lie down. There are many ways seniors can use a log roll to keep their back straight. • Senior who wants to sleep sideways may first sit on the side of the bed. Place the buttocks where they want to sleep. Lower the torso down onto the left or right side to bring the legs up. Seniors should stay in a straight plank during the movement. • Seniors who sleep on their back can roll in a plank motion from their side to the back. To go to the other side, bend the leg that is opposite from the side they want to roll onto. Press that foot down to push onto the side. Learn to always move in a plank motion to avoid wrenching the back. 2. Learn the Best Poses for Sleeping

  4. Seniors who are habitual of eating a large meal before bedtime may find it hard to ensure deep sleep. Your loved one may eat light snacks which may help him or her stay asleep. Many seniors may wake up hungry in the middle of the night if they fall asleep on an empty stomach. Alcohol may cause sleep disruption in seniors. Seniors should avoid alcohol or caffeine within six hours before bedtime. 3. Avoid Large Meals, Alcohol, and Caffeine before bedtime

  5. Your loved one may try new strategies for relieving his or her back pain. Seniors should avoid sudden movements which may strain their back. While lifting things from the ground, seniors should use their feet to lift instead of their back. Make sure your loved one has proper lumbar support while he or she sits. A chair with good lumbar support can help your loved one to avoid back pain. Stretching may be a good habit for seniors to ease their back pain. 4. Try Pain Relief Strategies
