  1. 5 TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR CAT SAFE THIS 4TH OF JULY Cat lovers recognize that our cats prefer peace and quiet….and a steady stream of sunshine to sleep in. We’ve all gotten the hairy eyeball when we’ve dropped something in the kitchen or turned up the volume past the point of feline acceptance. Some cats are more sensitive than others when it comes to sound. Some hide under the sofa when they hear it rain. Others cower under beds when they hear the FedEx guy on the front porch. And then there’s fireworks. Some experts say that the 4th of July is perhaps one of the scariest nights of the year for our cats. From a cat’s perspective, fireworks produce extremely loud noises. Their stress level rises as the unknown sound threatens their peaceful world. July 4th Stress July 4th Stress Stress is a normal emotion. But like humans, each cat is different and no two cats handle stress the same way. That said, it’s important to know the many types of behaviors that may be exhibited when the fireworks show starts… most of which are related to the “fight or flight” instinct. •Trying to run away the minute they hear fireworks •Hiding under the bed or in odd places because of the loud sounds •Crawling on their belly, bobbing their heads as they search for the impending threat •Panic meowing, growling and/or low grumbling •Arched back with ears back

  2. What can I do to help my cat during the fireworks? What can I do to help my cat during the fireworks? (1) Keep your cat indoors When cats are outside and running scared, there is a chance that they’re not watching out for cars. If your cat is an outdoor cat, make sure that you have kitty microchipped and that your contact information is current on the microchip record. (2) Stay home Cats can find comfort in knowing that you’re home and won’t let anything bad happen to them. And it’s important for the pawrents to behave as if it’s just a normal day. And don’t trap your cat in a room for the duration of the fireworks. This can trigger panic in your cat and that panic can lead to the cat hurting themselves. (3) Drown out the fireworks with more familiar sounds If you listen to music in the house – or constantly binge Downton Abbey, your cat is used to hearing that. Play it loud so it helps to drown out the sound of the fireworks. (4) Close the curtains Kitty doesn’t need to see all the flashing fireworks outside, so keep the blinds closed and curtains drawn. (5) Try CBD As a reminder, Cannabidiol, otherwise known as CBD, is the second most prominent phytocannabinoid found in hemp. It’s completely non-psychoactive and maintains a remarkably high safety profile (here’s more info on what that means). While studies are limited regarding CBD and felines, the ones that do exist support that CBD from reputable companies are safe and effective for pets. Here at Holistic Hound we create organic CBD products that are uniquely formulated with your pet’s taste buds in mind. So if you’re looking for a cat CBD product that may help your furriend stay calm, relaxed, and healthy through fireworks season and beyond, check out our CBD soft chews and oils.
