Research Impact on Warfighter“Systems Engineering Process for Air Force Counter Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) Efforts”

  • Background: Combat Air Forces (CAF) commanders and decision makers need a framework with which to make C-IED operational and acquisition decisions

  • Goal: An analysis of CAF C-IED capability initiatives, requirements, and development of a methodology to determine most promising C-IED candidates

  • Impacts:

  • Developed unique tool to guide Air Force C-IED efforts

  • Created innovative measures of effectiveness

  • Evaluated solutions against spectrum of terrorist activities

  • Prioritized solutions across the doctrine, organization and material tradespace – targeted near term solutions

  • Allows ACC & Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) to deploy best C-IED systems
