  3. Type 1 Diabetes In this situation, an individual who is unable to make insulin must inject insulin. Also known as juvenile diabetes or diabetes mellitus with insulin-dependent (IDDM). A person with type 1 diabetes is unable to make insulin, which is needed to transport blood sugar to the cells where it is used as fuel.
