Find More About Government Grants Canada and What’s On Offer Government grants in Canada are available for a whole host of different sectors and with COVID-19 still a real threat to the economy, support is still available for many businesses and organizations to help get them through tough times.

  4. Government grants are available for agriculture, arts, culture and sport, business, the environment, for indigenous people, gender equality, health, international development, jobs or apprenticeship training, care giving, pensions, research and development, and for student aid.

  5. What are grants? Grants are given to individuals, businesses or organizations to carry out particularly pieces of work, studies, research, programs, trials, or to support vulnerable or minority members of society. The applicant will need to fulfil a strict criteria and application process, but money from a grant is not money that needs to be paid back. Funds are also being made available to help business and industries survive the COVID-19 crisis. But there are very few grants that don’t have any strings attached and they are usually very focused projects and campaigns that are eligible.

  6. How do you find out what is available? The Canadian government has different hub sites that provide a full listing of the grants available in different sectors. For example, Innovation Canada has a full list of opportunities for businesses, including small business loans. There will be criteria to meet and there are also grants that are specific to different geographical areas.

  7. There is currently $754, 498, 448 of funding available for small businesses in grants, loans and private investors. Grants for the business sector are available in the following areas: growth potential, recruiting employment, agricultural expansion, acquiring business real estate, marketing ideas and securing patents, sponsoring research and development programs and for start-ups go get up and running.

  8. More specific topics include financial support for tenants and landlords, financial support for technology innovation, funding for plant protein projects, money for farmers impacted by COVID-19, help for small rural businesses and funding projects that provide solutions for the COVID-19 crisis.

  9. Culture, history and sport is a sector that has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic and there are currently 40 different funding programs available, including an athletes assistance program for international athletes preparing for competitions; there is a grant to support the set up of art festival and a grant for budding artists who show potential, but are currently in training. There is also money available for creative businesses who want to export their goods.

  10. There are currently 12 Canadian government grant programs to support the environment, including protecting the Atlantic ecosystems, protecting great lakes of Canada and a zero plastic waste initiative.

  11. Just this week the Canadian government has updated its funding framework for farms and agriculture focused businesses and a variety of new funding opportunities are now available. So called Red Seal trades like electricians and plumbers can benefit from new funding programs that have been released by the Canadian government.

The Canadian government has set up a Women’s Program to provide funding for organizations that can help address three key areas – preventing violence against women and girls, improving economic security and prosperity of women and girls, and encouraging women and girls in leadership and decision-making roles.
