  1. An overview of different window styles When you are looking at replacing the windows in your home, there are many options to consider. Things like the opening size, architectural style of your home and personal preferences, all impact what you’ll end up with. In this article, we wanted to provide a general overview of the options that are out there so that you can make a decision that best fits your needs. Do keep in mind that many of these window styles can be combined into one larger window to create a look of your own. Casement Window: This type of window hinges at one side, and will open out from the other side. The open window will actually help with ventilation, as the window itself catches the wind and steers it into the house.

  2. Sliding Window: This window can either come with one fixed window panel (sash) and another panel that slides back and forth to open and close. Awning Window: An awning window will hinge at the top and open out at the bottom. This versatile style will work well combined with others. Single Hung Window: A single hung window consists of a fixed panel at top and an operable bottom panel. This style has historically been the most common window style here in the US.

  3. Double Hung Window: On a double hung window, both the top and the bottom window panels are operable. The top panel will come down, and the lower can be raised simultaneously. Specialty Windows: The possibilities for specialty custom made windows are endless, and Glass-Rite can assist in bringing your vision to life. To see more in-depth information about different window styles, and the advantages of each, check out our previous article “What are the different window style options?” A final thing to consider is the material of the window.
