  1. How Do You Remove Hair From the Shower Drain? Despite your best efforts, hair will inevitably clog your shower drain. You can take out the ones stuck on the cover or the drain stopper, but what about hair that's stuck inside? This issue can cause sluggish drainage or water backup. But you don’t have to call a plumber just yet. There are plenty of DIY methods to unclog drains. Try using drain opener liquid or other helpful tricks provided here for help. Tip #1: Pour boiling water down the drain Boiling water is a trusted build-up remover for oil and grease in the kitchen sink, and you can also try pouring it down the shower drain. If that doesn’t do the trick, move on to the next tip. Tip #2: Make a baking soda and vinegar solution Always try natural solutions before reaching for drain chemicals. We recommend using a solution of baking soda and vinegar. Follow these steps: 1. Pour a cup of baking soda into the clogged drain and follow up with a cup of vinegar. 2. Let the solution fizz for five minutes or until it stops, then flush it down with two quarts of boiling water into the drain. 3. Turn on your faucet to see if the water can drain well. 4. Repeat the process if the drain is still clogged or sluggish. If you’re dealing with stubborn clogs, mix a cup of baking soda and a half cup of salt, pour the mixture down the drain, and let it stand overnight. Flush out with hot water the next day. Baking soda is a reliable build-up remover that won’t only dissolve hair. It helps remove foul odors, fight bacteria, and kill fungi in your drain. Tip #3: Get a hook If your drain has a removable cover or you can easily access it, you can manually fish out the clumps of hair with a hook. Wear rubber gloves to make sure that your skin doesn’t get in contact with any unpleasant substances that may come out of your drain. If you don’t have a hook, you can use a plumbing auger or plumbing snake, tweezers, or a clothing hanger. Make sure you have a flashlight to find the clog. Tip #4: Use chemicals If all else fails, it’s time to use drain opener liquid. But before you proceed, make sure you’re using a drain-safe formula that won’t corrode your plumbing pipes.
