  15. Openness to God in Human Nature • Grasping some good leads to desire for some other good • Human will seeks what is good • No limited good satisfies completely

  16. Tendency to Go Beyond • Human intellect seeks truth • Obtaining any answer leads to more questions • No finite truth satisfies completely

  17. Interpretations of Tendency to Go Beyond • Tendency of the will to go beyond all limited good things and of the intellect to go beyond all limited truths (answers) admits of two interpretations • Humans are made for frustration • Humans are made for infinite truth and goodness which are descriptions of God

  18. Do Humans Make Sense? • Interpretation #1 — tendency to go beyond is an endless series of disenchantments • Suggests we are looking for what does not exist, since our dissatisfaction keeps recurring despite our best efforts

  19. Is Human Restlessnessa Pointer? • Interpretation #2 — our unlimited capacity to raise new questions and our unlimited capacity to go beyond what we grasp, are pointers to our openness to what is unlimited — namely, God

  20. God as End of Human Restlessness • God language is an interpretation of human striving that makes sense out of human nature • Unlimited openness in humans is the image of Infinite God in human nature
