  1. Why to Pet Siberian Cats? Siberian cats are extremely sociable creatures who like their owners and often don't do well when left alone for extended periods. These animals do best in homes where people are frequently present and eager to play. The Siberian is friendly with most people and makes a wonderful addition to households with kids and other animals. These sharp-witted cats enjoy a challenge, so their living space should have both people and toys to keep them busy and amused. Siberian cats are more than willing to get up in your lap and unwind for a while when they aren't playing and having fun. These hardy cats still possess some of the traits that made them well-suited for the outdoors. For example, a lot of Siberian cats adore water, so don't be shocked if your cat follows you into the shower or bathtub to play! The medium to a big semi-longhair breed known as Siberian cats—also known as Siberian Forest cats or Moscow Longhairs—has males that weigh between 15 and 20 pounds and females that are only marginally smaller.

  2. They have shiny coats, round, inquisitive eyes, and are powerful, alert, and adventurist. Since Siberians are a landrace breed, they evolved through time by adjusting to their environment, which is why they need such thick coats to withstand the bitter Russian winters! They are wonderful complements to busy homes with children and other animal family members because of their laid-back demeanor and low care requirements. The thick forests of Siberia are said to have given rise to Siberian cats at least 1,000 years ago. Some individuals even believe that these silky beauties are the forerunners of all contemporary longhair cats. Although little is known about these cats' early development, they most likely became domesticated as they sought shelter from the harsh Siberian weather in farms, stores, and monasteries. They would have been appreciated by their initial pet parents because of their keen hunting abilities, which meant fewer rats inside. Even though we are unsure of the exact timing, Siberian cats most likely immigrated to the United Kingdom alongside Russian immigrants. In Harrison Weir's late 19th-century book Our Cats and All About Them, where he listed them as competitors in early cat shows, they were first mentioned in Jolly Old England. Siberian cats didn't arrive in the United States until 1990, which may surprise you. The most striking feature of a Siberian is its thick, three-layered coat, which overshadows everything else about them, including its large, bushy tail and tufted ears. It is made up of a woolly down undercoat, thin, wavy awn hairs, and coarse, straight guard hairs. It's hardly surprising that Siberian cats are active and adventurous problem solvers given their superior intelligence and athletic prowess. They enjoy leaping and climbing. If you have a Siberian as a pet, be prepared to discover it in the most unusual places, such as perched on top of your refrigerator, dangling from a door, or even swinging from your chandelier! Siberians also like practicing tricks and playing with puzzle toys. Because Siberians are so fluffy, you might be concerned that they require a lot of maintenance. Not so! Siberians have a three-layered coat, yet their lustrous fur only has to be brushed once or twice a week to prevent mats and tangles. It's a good idea to brush your friend every day throughout these periods because they molt severely at the end of the winter and then have a lighter molting in the summer.
