Founded in 1991 by a group of primary care physicians who recognized:

Need for an organization within field of sports medicine that approached athletes, exercising individuals, and teams comprehensively

Family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation

Better equipped than primary care counterparts to take care of a musculoskeletal problem
