Cancer is a growing menace. ICMR estimates that by 2025 there would be 15.7 lakh patients of cancer in the country. According To WHO (2020), 1 in 10 Indians will develop cancer in their lifetime and 1 in 15 will die of disease.Such is the magnitude of the disease. Cancer is the third leading cause of death amongst Non-Communicable Diseases.<br><br>

Itimpliesthatifweableto change orreduce these factors,wecanpreventasizablenumberofcancercasesandresultingdeaths. • To sumupCancersrelatedto smoking,alcohol,HBV,andHCV infection aremore commoninmenthanwomen.Also,Cancersrelated to excessbody weight, HPV infectionandphysical inactivityaremorecommon inwomen(constitutingbreast, endometrialand cervicalcancers) • In a study done in USA, Cigarette smoking was associated with 29% of cancer deaths. Similarly, Alcohol consumptions was linked to 4% deaths related to cancer. Similar is the case with excessive bodyweightand physicalinactivity. • Howto reducethe risk for cancer development? • Stay away from tobacco.
