  1. Fundamentals of a Yogic Lifestyle Strength training is often perceived as sweating it out in the gym and getting buff. The rough truth about these drastic transformations you observe in a gym is that, it’s tough to maintain. Research has shown that 80% of individuals are unsuccessful at maintaining the results they achieved in the gym in the long run i.e. at least for one year. Yoga, on the other hand, offers a more holistic approach to strength training without adding stress to the joints. These Vedic sciences are free from the gimmicks that swamp the fitness world. Using gravity and your own boy as natural weights, there is no scope to make excuses like being unable to go to the gym or finding the right trainer. A few poses that one must include in their yoga strength workout are: the Boat Pose, Chair Pose, Cobra Pose, Warrior Pose and the Half Moon Pose. These poses not only strength the muscles and increase flexibility of the joints but also help increase bone density.

  2. But holding poses and meditating isn’t enough, yoga also places utmost importance towards forming a mindful relationship with food. In Ayurveda, food is classified into three categories; Rajasic, Tamasic and Sattvik food types. Rajasic food overstimulates the system and is associated with hyperactivity. Tamasic food brings lethargy and dullness to the system. Sattvik is a well-balanced diet. It is known to keep the system light and energetic, the mind calm and alert, and emotions stable. It is a low-fat, high- fibre vegetarian diet. Sattvik beliefs promote intuitive eating, a concept that encourages being present in the moment while eating; making one realise that a life is taken to give another life. Emphasis is placed on paying attention to the different textures, taste, smell and sensations one experiences while eating. Sattvik diet includes seasonal fresh fruit, ample of fresh vegetables, whole grain, pulses, sprouts, dried nuts, seeds, honey, fresh herbs, milk and dairy products which are free from animal rennet, unprocessed food and are not deep fried. This surely keeps the weight in check and is extremely effective for weight loss. Thus raising our consciousness and making us live our lives with gratitude and awareness.
