M.S. in Computer Science • 2 year • 30 credit hours • 10 courses or 8 courses + research thesis • 6 core areas: Applications, Computing Foundations, Graphics and Visualization, Interactive Computing, Software Engineering, Systems and Implementation • Concentration requirement • 3 courses in a core area • Breadth requirement • 1 course in at least 3 other core • areas Prof. Brian Dean with student

  6. Production Studio • An intense studio-like experience • Teams produce short films with professional production values • Students responsible for: • concept art, storyboards, layout, modeling, surfacing, lighting, rendering, animation, VFX, sound

  9. HCC PhD Degree Requirements • 60 credit hours beyond the Bachelors degree. • Competency in 4 topic areas (Coursework) • Computing • People • Research Methods and Design • Cognate or Specialty Area • A portfolio (our combined version of the Ph.D. qualifying and comprehensive exams)

HCC PhD Degree Requirements • 3 hours of HCC 831: Fundamentals of Human-Centered Computing • 12 hours of Computing, CPSC 600 and 800 level • 6 hours from the People track • 6 hours of Research Methods • 9 hours of a Cognate or Specialty area • 6 hours of pre-dissertation research, CPSC 888 Directed Projects • 18 hours of dissertation research, CPSC 991

  11. HCC PhD Degree Requirements (Portfolio) • Transcripts (minimum GPA of 3.5) • Writing Sample (Student first author) • Statement of Purpose (One page) • Plan of Study (Consistent with SOP) • Advisor Letter of Support • Student C.V. • Optional Items (Source code, implementation)

  12. HCC PhD Degree Requirements • Ability to pursue research • Typically demonstrated by a research publication that may be co-authored with your advisor • A dissertation proposal on a specific topic • A dissertation • A dissertation defense
