Their strong suit is their bowling, which consists of talents such as Rashid Khan, Mohammed Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. A shaky batting order and overreliance on spin bowling might not do the job in England, especially considering how batsman friendly the pitches seem to be. Afghanistan has it in them to pull off upsets, as they’ve done in the past, but qualifying for the next stage seems unreachable at the moment.

In the build up to the World Cup, the Sri Lankan side suffered consecutive series losses. The manner in which New Zealand trounced the Lankan Tigers to a 10-wicket win in the opening game is an indication of how deep Sri Lanka’s problems go. LasithMalinga and Angelo Mathews seem to be the only players who have a wealth of experience under their belt, in what is a very youthful unit. Captain DimuthKarunaratne hasn’t enjoyed the best career in the limited overs format, and the choice to name him skipper is baffling. The youngsters in the side have not done enough to replace past greats. It would truly take a miracle for Sri Lanka to somehow not finish at the bottom.

A strong batting order possessing exciting opener FakharZaman, the in-form Babar Azam and veteran Shoaib Malik can overcome any team on their day. But poor fielding and lacklustre bowling has crippled Pakistan’s likelihood of making it through to the next stage, unless they get their act together.
