Must visit forts and palaces in Rajasthan: Majestic symbols of Rajasthan’s royal past Rajasthan is popularly known as the land of the Kings because of its majestic forts and palaces that it houses. These historical buildings showcase the glory of Rajasthan’s royal past. Foreign tourists wishing to immerse in the history of India, should visit Rajasthan to know about its rich history and culture and traditions of the regions, by visiting its majestic architectural wonders. Here is a list of the forts and palaces in Rajasthan that tourists must definitely visit: Amber Fort in Jaipur Amber Fort is located a few distances away from the main city of Jaipur, situated on top of a hill overlooking the Maota Lake and the surrounding below. This majestic fort was built by Raja Man Singh in 1592. The architectural design of the building comprises of both Mughal and Rajput architectural style. Inside the fort complex, there are many palaces, courtyards, pavilions and temples. One of the highlight of Amber Fort is the Sheesh Mahal which is also known as the Palace of Mirrors, which is adorned with mirrors and consists of complex mirror works. City Palace in Jaipur Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is one of the largest forts in India. Built around 1459 by Rao Jodha, the fort is 410ft (125m) above the city and is enclosed by imposing thick walls. This is one of the largest forts in India and was built in 1459 by Rao Jodha. This fort stands at a height of 400 feet above the city and overlooks the city of Jodhpur. Inside the fort complex, there are many palaces like Sheesh Mahal, Moti Mahal, and Phool Mahal, and as the name suggests each of this palaces is famous for its own uniqueness, captivating the interest of the visitors. There is also a museum inside the palaces which houses some of the historical collections. Things to do: Explore the Museum, check out the royal palanquins, and wander around the vast courtyards.
