  1. The Significance of a Percentage in Real Life Calculating percentages can get tricky for many people. We believe that if you understand its significance, your willingness to learn will increase significantly. Let’s explore the fun side of this fantastic mathematical element. The meaning of the percentage sign The word ‘Percentage’ originates from Latin, meaning ‘out of one hundred’. It enables every ‘whole’ broken up into 100 equal parts, each of which is a single per cent. Take up online Math classes to calculate percentages using fractions and complex numbers.

  2. The role of a percentage in mathematical equations Imagine using fractions to define values. For instance, a 5th of eight marbles or 3/4th of the classroom cannot always be used for interpretation. A percentage, on the other hand, offers the perfect clarity to evaluate. For example, 3.0 per cent of the solution contains hydrogen chloride. The rest of the 70% includes a different mineral. When you visualise this solution, you know what to expect. Of course, it isn’t difficult to interpret it differently when we say 2/3rd of the solution contains hydrogen chloride. However, the percentage offers a much preferred and understandable value. It is quick to analyse and proceed with further calculations. The significance of a Percentage in real life Percentages have real-life applications which allow an individual to make informed decisions using the power of Math. 1.Interpreting the value of ‘how much’ or ‘how many’ A percentage can help us figure the value of an amount. For instance, Rishi used up 70% of his earnings on the limited edition Cricket bat signed by his favourite Cricketer. 70% can be interpreted as Rishi spending Rs 70 for every Rs 100 he has been earning. 2.The fraction comparison scenario A fraction can be converted into a percentage to simplify the interpretation. Let’s take the example of a parent complaining about their four-year-old. “My kid ate 3/4th of the sandwich and left to play in the garden. I had to eat the remaining sandwich. He keeps wasting food.” By this, you can calculate how much the parent ate and how much the child ate. The fraction is converted to a percentage by multiplying the values by a hundred. So, if the child ate 3/4th of the sandwich, he consumed 75% of his snack. The parent who ate the remaining 1/4th consumed 25% of the sandwich. Which value is easier to interpret – the fraction or the percentage? Well, we love both values of Math! 3.Increase and decrease in the percentage Another significant contribution the percentage has made in the world is the ability to evaluate performance and progress. Let’s say an employee earn Rs 25,000 per month in the previous year. He gained promotion, and now his salary is Rs 40,000 per month. What is the percentage increase? Percentage of salary increase = (new increased salary ÷ the previous year’s salary) - 1 = (40000 ÷ 25000) - 1 = 60%

  3. So, the employee gets a 60% hike in pay as compared to last year. A percentage is an essential part of your life. Use it to drive your decisions backed by analytical thinking skills. Our online math classes await your enrolment to make the most of percentage applications. Sources: https://edulyte.weebly.com/blog/the-significance-of-a-percentage-in-real-life
