  1. September 5, 2017 Should You Ask Your Locksmith For A Smart Lock? Pros and Cons of A Keyless Lock According to recent studies, the average American spends almost an hour each day looking for misplaced or lost things. This means you spend approximately 15 days in a year, just turning your house upside down to look for things. pg. 1

  2. Ironically, it's the items you're used to carrying all the time, like your mobile phone, wallet, and lipstick, that you lose more frequently. So, is it any wonder that house keys top the list of most misplaced or lost? Add to wasting your precious time, constantly losing things also burns a hole in your pocket. A survey estimates that it will cost a whopping $5,591 over a lifetime if you replace all the items you misplace or lose every week. But more importantly, losing the keys to your home can pose a serious threat to you or your family's safety if they were to fall into the wrong hands. So with all these things in mind, should you consider installing keyless locks? Pros and Cons of Keyless Locks Needless to say, the number one advantage of an electronic or keyless door lock is not having to carry a key. Which means you spare yourself the frustration that comes with constantly worrying that you might lose your keys or for trying to find them. Another advantage of keyless locks, especially keypad types, is that you can regularly change your pin code for an added layer of security. So instead of giving your babysitter or housekeeper your keys, you can just give them a special one day passcode, which you can change back to your original pin later. This way, you can also track who goes in and out of your home. But while this feature may be helpful to parents who want to keep their homes secure, it's bad news for teenagers who may not be able to sneak in and out of the house past their curfew. However, the same function also doubles as a drawback, for the simple reason that you could get locked out because you forgot or mixed up the numbers on your own pin code. And afterwards might fall into the trap of using all known password don'ts as your pin code for convenience like your birthday, 123456, or the notorious "password." pg. 2

  3. Also, because keyless door locks are powered by electricity, some set-ups have been known to fail when there's blackout. This could either leave your door unlocked and your home vulnerable, or you getting locked out of your own home and calling a locksmith service for rescue. So, whether you decide to stick to the classic lock and key or transition to a smart lock, it's best to take some time to schedule a consultation with a locksmith service in your area for a professional opinion on what's the best option for you.
