Professor of Anesthesiology, Duke University
At present, Dr. Elliott Bennett-Guerrero fulfills several responsibilities at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. In addition to serving as a Professor of Anesthesiology, Dr. Bennett-Guerrero acts as Director of Perioperative Clinical Research in the Duke Clinical Research Institute. A highly respected member of his profession, Dr. Bennett-Guerrero has published widely, conducted a considerable amount of research, and delivered presentations before his peers at meetings and medical facilities around the country and beyond. Before embarking on his medical career, Dr. Elliott Bennett-Guerrero completed his formal training at institutions up and down the East Coast. He first enrolled in Pennsylvania's Haverford College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature and Molecular Biology. He then gained entrance into Harvard Medical School to pursue a Doctor of Medicine. After earning his MD, he fulfilled a transitional internship at Framingham Union Hospital, followed by a residency in anesthesiology at Duke University Medical Center, his current employer. Dr. Bennett-Guerrero stayed on at the institution to undertake additional training in cardiac anesthesiology and complete a fellowship in critical care medicine. The co-author of more than 70 articles for peer-reviewed journals, as well as several book chapters and abstracts, Dr. Bennett-Guerrero has spoken on topics that include surgical site infection, blood transfusion, systemic inflammation, thrombotic complications, and fluid resuscitation. Aside from his medical obligations, Dr. Bennett-Guerrero recently served on the Initiating Committee of the 2020 Planning Committee for the Town of Chapel Hill. A charitably minded individual, he contributes to a University of Colorado Law School scholarship fund aimed at reducing tuition for individuals wanting to serve as public defenders.
