Your body produces just the proper amount of tissue to repair the injury in most cases. However, in interstitial lung disease, the repair process goes awry, resulting in scarring and thickening of the tissue surrounding the air sacs (alveoli). It becomes more challenging for oxygen to enter your bloodstream as a consequence of this.
